The Constitutional functions of the Nigeria Police Force is the protection of lives and properties. This often times results in the loss of lives of Officers and men in the course of carrying out this constitutional functions. However, the zeal of the authority was ignited to put in place a welfare scheme that will cushion the effect of such losses. While acknowledging the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria in this direction by creating the Hero’s Grant, the Nigeria Police Force formed its internal Insurance Scheme christened “Nigeria Police Welfare Insurance Scheme” which came into effect on 1st May 1992 which has contributed towards the general welfare of the officers and men of the Force. The Nigeria Police Force is currently coordinating four (4) major welfare Insurance Schemes
