The GLAS
This scheme is constitutionally enjoyed by the Nigeria Police Force and other Federal Government employees. This is as a result of the Pension Reform Act of 2004 subsection 3, it came into effect from 1st March, 2010 via budgetary allocation under the service-wide vote. The benefit is three (3) years total Emolument of the Officer which is paid at death to the next-of kins/beneficiaries of deceased personnel.

The GPAIS
It is a non-contributory scheme, funded solely by the Federal Government through annual budgetary allocation to the Nigeria Police Force. The scheme came into effect on 15th October, 2002. It is a direct effort of the Federal Government with desirability of having accident covers (Death, Permanent Disability and Medical Expenses) in terms of Insurance for officers and men of the Force. The scheme is designed to provide benefits for victims of accident cases only e.g Road Traffic Accident (RTA), Gunshot, Mob attack.

The NPWIS
This is a self-contributory Insurance scheme mutually instituted by Nigeria Police for its personnel. The scheme commenced on 1st May, 1992, and was conceived to provide welfare for the members of the Force in case of any eventuality viz-a-viz retirement. Contribution to the pool is on monthly deduction based on individual ranks.

The IGPFWS
This is a new Scheme introduced by the Inspector General of Police to provide immediate succor to the families of deceased Police Personnel who are usually faced with financial challenges while processing the benefits of their loved ones. The Scheme came into effect on 20th July 2017 and it’s funded (in house)
