The GLAS

The Nigeria Police Group Life Assurance Scheme

This scheme is constitutionally enjoyed by the Nigeria Police Force and other Federal Government employees. This is as a result of the Pension Reform Act of 2004 subsection 3, it came into effect from 1st March, 2010 via budgetary allocation under the service-wide vote. The benefit is three (3) years total Emolument of the Officer which is paid at death to the next-of kins/beneficiaries of deceased personnel.

Application Requirement

Death

  • Medical certificate of Death/cause of death

  • Certificate of registration of death

  • Police report (if death is by accident)

  • Burial warrant issued by Local government council/Authority

  • Evidence of death/Burial issued by Pastor, Imam or Village head

  • Affidavit of Next-of-kin

  • Emolument form, LPC, and PFA certificate

  • IPPIS print out

The GPAIS

The Nigeria Police Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme

It is a non-contributory scheme, funded solely by the Federal Government through annual budgetary allocation to the Nigeria Police Force. The scheme came into effect on 15th October, 2002. It is a direct effort of the Federal Government with desirability of having accident covers (Death, Permanent Disability and Medical Expenses) in terms of Insurance for officers and men of the Force. The scheme is designed to provide benefits for victims of accident cases only e.g Road Traffic Accident (RTA), Gunshot, Mob attack.

Application Requirement

Death

  • Death Certificate from a certified medical Doctor

  • Deceased passport photograph

  • Wireless message report showing incident

  • Photocopy of case file with report signed by HODinvestigating the case

  • Photographs of the deceased Officer showing the incident

Permanent Disability

  • Medical Certificate or Letter from attending physician

  • Wireless message report showing incident

  • Photocopy of current year Emolument form with Authorized signatories

  • Postcard Photographs of the disabled officer

Medical Expenses

  • Medical Certificate or Letter from attending physician

  • Certified genuine copies of Medical bill/Receipts

  • Victim’s passport- sized photograph in uniform

  • Wireless message Report showing the incident

The NPWIS

The Nigeria Police Welfare Insurance Scheme

This is a self-contributory Insurance scheme mutually instituted by Nigeria Police for its personnel. The scheme commenced on 1st May, 1992, and was conceived to provide welfare for the members of the Force in case of any eventuality viz-a-viz retirement. Contribution to the pool is on monthly deduction based on individual ranks.

Application Requirement

Death

  • Death Certificate from a qualified  medical doctor

  • Claim notification form

  • Signal reporting death

  • One passport photograph of next of kin

  • Affidavit of fact from Next of kin

  • Passort of deceased officer in uniform

  • Photograph of last pay certificate (LPC)

  • Statement of account

Withdrawal

  • Last Promotion signals

  • Evidence of retirement (approval of retirement from psc –spo /discharge certificate—inspr/rank and file)

  • Passport photograph of officer in last rank attained

  • Photograph of last pay certificate

  • Statement of account

The IGPFWS

The Inspector General of Police Family Welfare Scheme

This is a new Scheme introduced by the Inspector General of Police to provide immediate succor to the families of deceased Police Personnel who are usually faced with financial challenges while processing the benefits of their loved ones. The Scheme came into effect on 20th July 2017 and it’s funded (in house)

Application Requirement

Death

  • Death Certificate

  • Signal reporting death

  • Wireless message report showing incident

  • Letter of introduction of Next-of-Kin from the command served last

  • IPPIS print out or Pay Slip print out

NOTE THAT

For Natural death the deceased officer is entitled to Three (3) Claims which are

  • Nigeria Police Welfare Insurance Scheme

  • Group Life Assurance Scheme

  • IGP Family Welfare Scheme

For Unnatural Death deceased officers are entitled to Four (4) Claims namely

  • Nigeria Police Welfare Insurance Scheme

  • Group Life Assurance Scheme

  • IGP Family Welfare Scheme

  • Group Personal Accident Scheme

For Medical Expenses or Permanent Disability as a result of Accident, Mob attack, burns, Gun shot etc. the officer is entitled to just One (1)

  • Group Personal Accident Scheme

For retirement the officer is entitled to only one (1)
